Interview with Sylvain Garabos from Winterpark LES 2 ALPES
Short designer history and which features do you still ride: Whenever got time, i try to ride a bit of everything, with a preference for rails. But now I have less and less time to ride ‘cause of the park’s work and the association “Elite shapers” that we’ve created with Aurelien Gonthier. Whenever got time, i try to ride a bit of everything, with a preference for rails. Park sponsors: tba
Shaper Crew: 6people : Gonthier Aurélien, Sanajuste Nicolas, Bouchardon Maxime, Tejerina Sebastien, MouSS (stabmobile style) aaaaaaaaaaaand Eric Labbe!!
100 h / week each
Position of the park: For the winter park we have some earthforms and that’s very useful given today’s lack of snow.
Park philosophy: Cool, design, artistic. Actually i dunno . The most important thing in life is not to harm anyone, for da rest everybody do what they want of their lives and their boards.
Percentage of park areas: Let’s say 20% Pro zone,30% Public zone and 50% Beginner zone
The importance of a Pro area: The communication is centred on the pro-zone. A pro area is also a part of the park where you can have fun creating new fat, original and innovative features. The pro zone is a bit the snowpark’s showcase/window.
Local Pro rider: A. Doumergue, L. Bennachio, A. Longo, G. Zebrovski
General news for 07/08: Bigger, more stylish, but we also need more snow !!!
Events 07/08: Currently working out,Mondial du snowboard/mondial du ski
Shape and style of the obstacles: Aesthetic and safe
Beginner rails and boxes:Mail box(3m),double tube bar(3m),Flat down box(3m),Box(2m),Flat down ledge(3m)
Shape and style of the rails and boxes: We have everything for every level: box, wave box, S rail , kinck, ledge, flat rails , etc, etc… More and more pick-nick tables and butter boxes coming soon
New snow obstacles, lines or projects: secret
Planned park modification or changes later in the season: Always !! we do our best during the season to diversify the park, make it even more stylish and propose new features so that nobody’s getting bored
Top nationalities: FRA, GB, ITA
Safety precautions and inventions: Rules at every park’s entrance(3). Miscellaneous signboards in 2 languages(french/english). Opening and closing of the zones whenever we think it’s risky and unsafe.
How about a (super)pipe: A pipe is also a very important training tool for the schools, teams and pros. But that’s also something very advertising for the customers. That’s why it’s very important to have a beginner pipe or good signaling panels if you don’t want your pipe to turn into a boardercross!!!!!
Epic or crazy things happened in the past: The snowbladers hitting the big air who fly 3 meters than crash like shit on the flat! But what I will never forget are the late night photoshoots on the glazier with all those beautiful colors on the park freshly shaped and milled.
Your freestyle park vision: clean, playful, entertaining, safe, aesthetic and artistic
Freeride possibilities in the backcountry: Of course but you gotta find the snow for that or Eric Labbe
